Logo (re) DESIGN

Monday, April 21, 2008

I was approached by Spyraled Media to do a quick re-think of this logo for Silvas Indsutries. Silvas Industried provides high end homes for their clients, they are a green builder and - wow - are those houses nice (6M for the one I saw today.)
We will be doing the rest of the site soon, but I am excited toget the go ahead on the logo today.

New Project Finnished; New Skill Acquired

Monday, March 24, 2008

I was a bit intimadated at first when I was asked to do this technical illustration for a product to go before the FDA for approval, but I'm very happy with the results. It took me around three hours to get it right.
Now, having finnished I can add a whole new skill to my set: technical illustration. Exiting.

New Logo Finnished!

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

I'm quite pleased with the way this one turned out. The logo is for the helix international group of course, and they wanted a helix represented somewhere in the design, I think it looks good as the "x" in "Helix" and hopefully not too much like a breast cancer ribbon or something.
The group is pleased with it and so am I.

TravisNeilson.com goes live!

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Great News!
I am very excited to announce that travisneilson.com went live this morning! I finished up the last little bits and now it is ready for everyone to enjoy!
The main thesis of the site is a showcase of my design work. As a graphic designer for hire Ihope this will aide in the search for new clients.

Features
The Blog page (this very one) will be the most frequently updated page. It will feature new projects, relevant news, and possibly an article or two.
The Portfolio page functions as the nitty gritty of the site. - What can I do? Look at the Portfolio page.
A (kinda) short profile and resume are to be found on the About page. It's actually not as boring as it sounds, I'll give a nice discount to anyone who reads the whole thing. Honestly.
Lastly, the Goodies page is a place of wonder! - If free junk can be considered wonder. You'll find desktop wallpapers, OSX icons, printable greeting cards, apple mail stationary, and other free junk I make in my down time. Currently there are a few walls there but more is coming shortly.

Goals
I hope this site becomes a viable way to stay connected with the world and is worth the effort. If I have not made it clear that I am a freelance graphic design consultant than I would like to note that now. I am for hire. Hire me.
If nothing else stop by the comments / guestbook and say hi, or just leave a comment on the Blog, either way its love.

Cheers,
Travis

Featured Work: Announcement

Tuesday, January 1, 2008

Client Profile
Dustin is a hard working structural engineering student on a hard working structural engineering students budget.
Objective / Brief
When the time came to walk with his class in the graduation ceremony Dustin wanted to let his friends and family know the great news with style. When Dustin approached me he said that the announcements that the school was offering to sell him were all to boring and that he was looking for a new, more creative approach.
Solution
Since Dustin was open to new ideas and had a good amount of trust in my tastes as a designer he had no objections when I suggested we try a more experimental approach. But hey, who doesn't love see-through paper?

We decided to keep the overall design low-key with a few wallpaper inspired patterns and solid tint boxes to place the copy.
The actual copy was printed backwards on the underside of a translucent piece of paper and read correctly through the top side. When aligned the tint box provides a place to easily read the clever message on the see-through page. The back of the announcement is adorned with a similar tint box with more practical information regarding the event.
Result
The resulting announcement is a clear break from the traditional 'boring' alternative. Dustin was able to express himself in a totally unique and original manner.
"When Travis brought over the final draft, I was very impressed," Says Dustin, "the final product was very professional looking and those who received it also seemed impressed."
Conclusion
Through communication and collaborative work we were able to find a suitable solution to Dustin's design needs. Please view the portfolio page to view this and many other well designed solutions to communication needs. After all that's what the heart of design is; communication.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Monday, December 24, 2007

Christmas eve is upon us and i am just finnishing up with the layout if this blog page. Ah, the miracle of the blog template and having full editing powers. Oh yeah, and i learned CSS this week, its not that hard once you get the syntax down.
Jayna and I put together this card to mail to all of our friends and family. We had a lot of fun making it. I saved the file as a PDF and now you can use it to bring Christmas Cheer to the special ones in your life!
Instructions:
1) Print out double sided pdf, make sure to use one sheet front and back (cardstock is best)
2)Write your name in the blanks (inside and outside)
3) Send em off.
